Phase 1: LARA Application Review (4-8 Weeks)

After you submit your Mechanical Contractor application through LARA's MiPLUS portal and pay the $300 non-refundable fee, the Bureau of Construction Codes reviews your experience affidavits, education credits, and character disclosure.

During peak construction season (spring through early fall), the review backlog runs 6-8 weeks. Off-season applications may process in 4-5 weeks. The variable is staffing — LARA processes thousands of professional applications across all trade categories annually, and mechanical applications compete for reviewer time alongside electrical, plumbing, and builder applications.

Common delays at this stage:

• Incomplete experience statements (vague work descriptions, missing required signature under penalty of perjury, wrong employer information)
• Missing classification-specific hour breakdowns
• Character disclosure that requires additional documentation review
