How to Get Daycare Clients in Louisiana: Marketing Your Home Daycare

You have your FCC registration, your background checks are clear, and your home passed inspection. Now you need children to enroll. Marketing a home daycare in Louisiana works differently from marketing a commercial center — your capacity is capped at six children, so you need a handful of committed families, not a flood of leads.

Start With the CCAP Provider Directory

The single most effective enrollment channel for Louisiana home daycare providers is the state's CCAP system. When you complete your CCAP Provider Certification, your name and location appear in the provider directory that CCAP-eligible families search when choosing care. In Louisiana's childcare deserts — and there are many — you may be one of very few options in your parish.

Families receiving CCAP subsidies represent a state-backed revenue stream. KinderConnect handles provider attendance, authorizations, and remittance advice, while KinderTrack is used by LDOE to process provider subsidy payments; payment timing follows the state's processing cycle rather than an individual family's payment timing. For a six-child operation, filling even three or four spots with CCAP families creates a stable financial base.

Your Local Ready Start Network

Louisiana's Ready Start Networks are regional coalitions that connect families with childcare providers. Contact your parish's Ready Start coordinator and ask to be listed as an available Family Child Care option. These networks maintain referral lists and actively direct families toward registered providers, especially in areas with care shortages.

Your local Child Care Resource and Referral (CCR&R) agency serves a similar role. When parents call the CCR&R asking for infant or toddler openings, registered providers with verified availability get referred first.

Online Listings That Work for Home Daycares

Create a free profile on childcare search platforms where Louisiana parents look. The most effective for home providers are listings that display your registration status, your quality rating (if you have Academic Approval), and the age ranges you serve. Parents filtering for infant care or non-standard hours will find you faster if your listing is detailed.

A simple Google Business Profile also helps. When parents search "home daycare near me" plus their city or parish, a verified Google listing puts you on the map. Include your operating hours, age ranges served, and a clear description of your program. Do not list your home address publicly if you have safety concerns — a service area listing works for initial inquiries.

Word of Mouth and Community Visibility

For a six-child program, your most effective advertising is the parents who already trust you. Ask enrolled families if they know anyone looking for care. Offer a small referral gesture (a day's discount, a gift card) when a referral converts to enrollment.

Local community boards — church bulletins, pediatrician offices, WIC clinics, and parish library notice boards — reach parents who are actively looking but have not gone online yet. A simple flyer with your name, the ages you serve, your hours, and your registration status is enough. Mention that you are CCAP-accepted if you are — that single detail filters in the families most likely to enroll.

What Not to Do

Do not overspend on paid advertising. Facebook ads and Google Ads cost more per lead than your six-child capacity can justify. The math does not work — one $200 ad campaign to fill a single spot eats into weeks of revenue. Focus on free channels first.

Do not advertise care for more children than your FCC registration allows. If your marketing implies you serve seven or more, you risk a complaint that triggers an LDOE investigation. Keep your capacity limit of six (including your own children under 13) visible in all communications.

The Louisiana Home Daycare Licensing Guide includes an enrollment and marketing planning section that helps you project your revenue at different occupancy levels and identify which enrollment channels to prioritize for your specific parish.
