CE Broker New Hampshire — Tracking Your Mechanical License Credits

Since February 3, 2025, every gas fitter, plumber, and domestic appliance technician licensed by the OPLC Mechanical Licensing Board must track their continuing education credits through CE Broker. Paper certificate submissions at renewal time are no longer accepted. If your CE Broker transcript does not show compliance when you renew, your renewal will not process.

The rule was enacted under administrative rule Plc 308.04, and it applies to all active tradespeople — not just new licensees.

Setting Up Your CE Broker Account

Create a free basic account at CE Broker. You will need your OPLC license number to link your account to your New Hampshire mechanical license record.

The basic (free) account gives you everything you need: you can view your transcript, check your compliance status, and see which credits have been applied to your renewal cycle. Paid tiers offer features like course search and reminders, but the free tier satisfies the OPLC requirement.

Once your account is linked, approved education providers upload your course completion directly to CE Broker. You do not need to manually enter courses or upload certificates — the system is designed to be provider-reported, not self-reported.

How Many CE Hours Do You Need?

The OPLC requires a minimum of 6 hours of continuing education within each 2-year renewal cycle:

• 3 hours of code updates annually — covering revisions to the NFPA 54 (National Fuel Gas Code), NFPA 58 (LPG Code), and applicable state administrative rules
• Remaining hours can be filled with other board-approved continuing education topics

The code-update requirement is annual (3 hours per year), even though the renewal cycle is biennial. Completing all 6 hours in the final month cannot satisfy the separate annual code-update requirement — and if a provider's roster upload is delayed, your transcript may show non-compliance at the worst possible time.

What Counts as Approved CE

Not every HVAC continuing education course satisfies the New Hampshire requirement. The course must be:

1. Delivered by a provider approved by the Mechanical Licensing Board
2. Aligned with the current Propane Education Program (PEP) framework — courses still referencing the retired CETP modules may not be accepted
3. Relevant to the mechanical trade categories covered by your license

National online CE platforms may offer courses that satisfy other states' requirements but are not recognized by the NH board. Verify approval status with the provider before enrolling.

How the OPLC Uses CE Broker at Renewal

When you submit your biennial renewal through the OPLC portal, the system runs an automated audit against your CE Broker transcript. It checks:

• Total hours completed within the renewal cycle
• Code-update hours specifically
• Provider approval status for each course

If the transcript shows a deficit, the renewal is blocked. You will need to complete the missing hours through an approved provider, wait for the provider to upload the roster to CE Broker, and then re-attempt the renewal.

Common CE Broker Problems

Credits not appearing. You completed a course but your transcript is blank. The most common cause is a delay in the education provider's roster upload to CE Broker. Contact the provider first to confirm they have submitted your attendance record. If the provider confirms submission but credits still do not appear, contact the OPLC Board Administrator to investigate a sync issue.

Wrong license linked. If you hold multiple OPLC credentials (e.g., gas fitter and plumber), verify that your CE Broker account is linked to the correct license number for each credential. Credits applied to one license do not automatically cross-apply to another.

Course not recognized. A course that appears on CE Broker but is not approved by the Mechanical Licensing Board will not count toward your renewal. The "available on CE Broker" status and "approved by the NH Mechanical Board" status are two different things.

Staying Current

The simplest strategy: complete one 3-hour code-update course early in each year of your renewal cycle. This distributes the requirement evenly, gives you buffer time for any upload delays, and keeps your transcript compliant well ahead of your renewal date.
