What MyLicenseOne Does

MyLicenseOne is DOPL's online licensing portal — a system where Utah electricians submit applications, renew credentials, and update contact information. Public license-status checks are handled through DOPL's separate license lookup tool at commerce.utah.gov/dopl/electrical/.

You can still file paper applications, but MyLicenseOne is the online route for applications and renewals. Online submissions keep the transaction electronic, while paper applications use DOPL's manual process.

Creating Your Account and Submitting Applications

For a new application, have your legal name, Social Security Number (or ITIN/Alien Registration Number), and a valid email address ready. The system assigns you a unique profile that tracks every credential you hold or apply for through DOPL — not just electrician licenses, but any professional license the division oversees.

For electrician-specific applications, you will select the appropriate license classification (Apprentice, Residential Journeyman, Journeyman, Residential Master, Master, or Contractor) and upload the required documentation. Apprentice applicants need the employer-signed Verification of Supervision form. Since January 19, 2026, first-time individual candidates upload their Verification of Electrician Experience forms to Prov during exam registration; after passing, they submit the final DOPL license application. Contractor applicants submit general liability insurance certificates, workers' compensation documentation, and business entity registration details.

The $116 application fee for individual licenses and the $226 contractor application fee are paid directly through the portal at submission.

Renewals Through the Portal

Utah electrician licenses renew biennially, with a hard deadline of November 30 in even-numbered years. DOPL has transitioned to electronic-only renewal notifications — you will not receive a mailed reminder. When the renewal window opens, you log into MyLicenseOne, retrieve your Renewal ID, confirm your continuing education hours have been reported (16 hours per renewal cycle for Journeyman and Master), and pay the $84 renewal fee online.

If you miss the November 30 deadline, the portal allows late renewal for up to 30 days with a $20 late fee. After 30 days, you enter reinstatement territory, which adds a $50 reinstatement fee and may require additional documentation depending on how long the license has been lapsed.

Common Portal Issues

The most frequent frustration with MyLicenseOne is application status visibility. After submitting, your application may show as "pending" while DOPL reviews your documentation and conducts its background review. For individual licenses, DOPL issues and emails the physical license within 10 to 14 business days. During this window, the portal does not provide granular progress updates — it simply shows "pending" until the license issues or DOPL contacts you for additional information.

If DOPL requests corrections, follow the deficiency notice and provide the missing documentation. Separately, a trade-program candidate's Prov registration can remain pending until the school transmits graduation authorization.
