What LVIS 360 Is and Why It Matters

LVIS 360 — the Licensing Verification and Information System — is the IDOE's portal for Indiana educator license applications, document uploads, payments, and digital credentials. If you want an Indiana teaching license, start in LVIS.

The system uses interactive validation, which means it checks for required documents and training certificates as you progress through the application. If anything is missing, the application won't advance. This prevents some errors but creates its own frustration when the system isn't clear about what's blocking you.

Setting Up Your Access Indiana Account

Before you touch LVIS 360, you need an Access Indiana account. This is the state's single sign-on system that connects to LVIS and several other Indiana government portals.

Go to access.in.gov. Create your account with your legal name exactly as it appears on your transcripts and background check documents. Name mismatches between Access Indiana, your transcripts, and your LVIS profile are one of the most common sources of processing delays.

Once your Access Indiana account is active, navigate to LVIS 360 at license.doe.in.gov. The system will prompt you to create an educator profile. Fill this out completely — partial profiles can't receive applications or permit requests from school corporations.

If you already had an Access Indiana account for another state service (BMV, DWD, tax filing), you can use the same login. Just make sure the name and personal information match your education credentials exactly.

The Application Process Step by Step

Upload your official transcripts. Arrange for your degree-granting institution to send official transcripts directly to the IDOE. Electronic delivery through services like Parchment takes 1-5 days. LVIS has a document upload slot where you can also attach a copy, but the official transcript must come directly from the institution.

Critical detail: your transcripts must show a conferred degree. If your transcript says "in progress" or "expected," LVIS will reject the application. Wait until your degree is officially posted before submitting.

Upload your safety training certificates. Upload certificates for CPR/AED, suicide prevention, human trafficking, and child abuse/neglect training in LVIS. Each must be a clear, legible scan or PDF. The CPR certificate must specifically document the hands-on mannequin component.

Upload your background check. The Indiana State Police Limited Criminal History search results need to be current — processed within 60 days of your LVIS application submission.

Pay the credential evaluation fee. For out-of-state transcripts, this is a non-refundable $35 fee. The IDOE's manual evaluation takes 4-8 weeks. For in-state candidates in approved EPPs, follow the program's institutional recommendation and IDOE's LVIS instructions.

Pay the license application fee. A separate non-refundable $35 fee. This is paid when you submit the final application after all documents are verified and requirements are met.

The 90-Day Document Closure Rule

This is where LVIS gets unforgiving. If the IDOE flags your application for missing or incorrect documentation, you have 90 days to upload the corrected files. After 90 days, the IDOE closes your application automatically. Your evaluation and application fees — both non-refundable — are gone. You restart from scratch with new fees.

The most common triggers for a document return:

An online-only CPR certificate without documented hands-on training. The IDOE's validation staff specifically check for the mannequin-based practice component.

A transcript that shows enrollment rather than degree conferral. This happens often with December graduates whose spring applications arrive before the registrar posts the degree.

A background check older than 60 days. If your application sat in processing and your background check aged out, you'll need to run a new one.

Checking Your Application Status

LVIS 360 shows your application status on the main dashboard after login. You'll see whether your application is in the evaluation queue, pending document review, or approved.

The IDOE's Office of Educator Licensing also holds weekly open office hours for licensing questions: Tuesday afternoons from 2:30-3:30 p.m. EST and Thursday mornings from 10:30-11:30 a.m. EST. You can also email [email protected] for specific application questions.

For school corporations tracking employee permit requests, LVIS has a separate Corporation Work Queue where HR administrators can see the status of permits they've initiated.

Tips for a Clean First Submission

Get your ducks in a row before you start the LVIS application. Have all four safety training certificates, your background check, and your official transcripts ready to upload in one sitting. A partial submission that sits in the queue while you gather remaining documents wastes weeks.

Double-check name consistency across every document. Your Access Indiana account, LVIS profile, transcripts, and background check all need to show the same legal name. A maiden name on old transcripts versus a married name on your profile triggers manual review.

Pay attention to file formats. LVIS accepts PDFs and common image formats. Keep files under the upload size limit (5MB) and make sure scanned documents are legible — blurry or cropped certificates get returned.
