The LEC Portal Is the Only Way to Apply

Since July 28, 2025, every teacher certification application in Louisiana goes through the Louisiana Educator Certification (LEC) system, built into the Louisiana Educator Portal (LEP) at teachlouisiana.net. The old paper-and-PDF application process is gone. If someone tells you to mail in a form, that advice is outdated.

The portal handles everything: initial applications, renewals, advancement from Level 1 to Level 2, endorsement add-ons, and fee payments. But it has several built-in rules that can block your application or delete it entirely if you do not understand how the system works.

The Clear Credential Gate

The LEC portal has an automated gatekeeper. Before you can access any standard application form, the system checks whether you have an active criminal background check and a "Clear Credential" designation on file with the LDOE.

If your Clear Credential is missing or expired (background checks must be refreshed every five years), the portal locks you out of all applications. The only option visible is the "Fingerprint Clearance Required Before Proceeding" application.

To resolve this, you must schedule a fingerprinting appointment through IdentoGO using the LDOE service code 27N5HQ and pay the $55.75 fee. Results take 48 hours to 3 weeks to process. Until IdentoGO transmits your results and LDOE updates your portal status, you cannot proceed.

This is why the background check should be your first step — not something you handle after choosing a program or registering for Praxis exams.

The 45-Day Auto-Purge

Any application you start in the LEC portal that is not fully submitted — including online payment of the $50 processing fee — within 45 days is automatically deleted from the system. Gone. No recovery option.

The portal sends a warning notification 15 days before deletion. But if your application is stalled because you are waiting for a third party to complete their section (a university uploading transcripts, a district HR office submitting an Intent-to-Employ form), that 15-day warning can arrive while you are still chasing signatures.

To avoid this:

• Do not start an application until you have all documents ready to upload.
• Contact your program provider and district HR before initiating the application, so they know to complete their sections promptly.
• Watch for the warning email and escalate immediately if third-party sections are incomplete.

How Applications Flow Through Multiple Parties

Many LEC applications require action from more than just the candidate. When you apply for a Practitioner License, for example, three parties must act:

1. You initiate the application and upload your documents.
2. Your preparation program must log in and upload an admission verification.
3. Your district HR office must upload an Intent-to-Employ form listing your assigned mentor teacher.

If you do not know this upfront, you can submit your part and wait weeks for an update — only to discover the application is stalled because the district HR specialist never completed their section. Follow up with those third parties directly.

Public school systems access the portal through EdLink with an eScholar Staff ID. Charter schools use localized "Membership Codes." Nonpublic schools have their own access pathway through the LEP.

Tracking Your Application

Once submitted, your application enters the LDOE review queue. Average processing time is 20-30 business days, though it can be faster. You can check status by logging into teachlouisiana.net and viewing your application history.

If processing stalls past 30 business days:

• Submit a support ticket through the LDOE Teacher Certification Help Center at teachercerthelp.doe.louisiana.gov.
• Include your full name, date of birth, and the application type you submitted.
• Use the help portal for status questions — it routes tickets directly to the certification team.

Common causes of delays: name mismatches between documents (maiden name on transcript, married name on application), missing Praxis score reports (verify you designated state code 7330), or a Clear Credential that expired during processing.

What the Portal Cannot Do

The LEC portal is the LDOE's system. It does not handle anything controlled by your local school district. DCFS Child Abuse and Neglect clearance (CANS check), employment contracts, salary negotiations, and mentor assignments are all district-level processes that happen outside the portal.

Similarly, IdentoGO scheduling and technical appointment issues are managed by IDEMIA, not LDOE. If you need to reschedule a fingerprinting appointment, contact IdentoGO directly.
