Alaska Plumber License Cost
The Fees Are Split Across Two Agencies
Alaska plumber licensing costs are distributed between DOLWD (individual trade credentials) and CBPL (business credentials). The total depends on how far up the career ladder you're going.

The Mechanical Administrator exam fee goes to PSI Services, not to the state. It's billed separately and paid directly to the testing provider. The $150 CBPL application fee is nonrefundable regardless of exam outcome.

State credentials don't cover you in every municipality. Anchorage and Fairbanks each require additional local qualification exams and cards:

That's before insurance and bonding, which add $1,300–$3,500 annually. The workers' compensation premium is the wildcard — Alaska's 80% wage replacement rate makes premiums substantially higher than most states.
The Hidden Cost: Failed Applications
The $150 Mechanical Administrator application fee and $100 Mechanical Contractor application fee are nonrefundable. An incomplete experience verification, a name mismatch between your bond and your registration, or missing documentation can require a new filing. DOLWD lists its $50 COF application fee separately from the certificate fee, so confirm the current fee instructions before filing.
The exam fees are similarly non-recoverable on failure. Fail the PSI exam and you pay another $150 to retake. Fail an Anchorage section exam and you have 90 days to retake it — miss that window and the entire $490 is forfeited.
