Where to Apply: The LicensE Portal

Each credential level has its own DSPS form:

Upload your completed form along with all supporting documentation through the LicensE portal. If you have any prior criminal convictions or pending charges, you must also upload Form 2255 (Trades Convictions and Pending Charges) with an $8 review fee.

Documentation That Must Accompany Your Application

For journeyman applicants:

• DWD apprenticeship completion certificate or credential notice
• First page of your formal apprenticeship contract
• Employer affidavits verifying your training hours

For master plumber applicants:

• Employer verification records covering three consecutive years of post-journeyman experience
• Payroll documents or W-2 records for each year
• Signed supervisor attestations confirming hours and scope of work
• School transcripts (if using the engineering degree pathway)

For out-of-state applicants:

• Documentation of a five-year apprenticeship recognized under federal DOL standards
• Proof of at least 576 classroom instruction hours
• State-issued licensing credentials from your home state
• Employer tax records and certified school transcripts

The Three-Month Correction Window

For an incomplete Plumbing Contractor Registration package, DSPS allows three months to correct the deficiencies. If you miss that window, the application is discarded and the fees are forfeited. You'd need to start the application process over with a new filing and new fees.

This is why documentation preparation matters more than most applicants realize. An incomplete contractor-registration package doesn't just delay your registration — it can cost you the filing fees and push you into the next review cycle.

Processing Timeline

DSPS does not publish guaranteed processing times for trades applications. In practice, the review period depends on the completeness of your documentation and current application volume. Once approved, you'll receive an exam authorization email with your candidate ID for scheduling through Pearson VUE.

After passing the exam, your licensing fee ($180 for journeyman, $500 for master) is paid through the LicensE portal, and your credential is issued electronically.
