Master: Requires two years as a licensed journeyman or 12,000 total trade hours. The exam is the ICC G27 (Master Plumber with Gas), also through Pearson VUE with a 75% passing score. The master license fee is $117.
The gas component built into the G28 and G27 exams matters: Jefferson City uses gas-inclusive plumbing exams for journeyman and master credentials. Confirm the current permit scope with the Department of Building Regulations before taking on gas work; not every Missouri jurisdiction bundles gas authority into its standard plumbing exam.
Contractor License
The plumbing contractor license requires a licensed master plumber as the full-time qualifying party. The contractor license fee is $233, and the business must be registered with the Missouri Secretary of State.
Financial requirements include a minimum $5,000 surety bond and a certificate of liability insurance filed with the Department of Building Regulations. Jefferson City's bond threshold is the lowest among the major Missouri jurisdictions — Kansas City doesn't require a standalone bond (it uses business license compliance instead), but St. Charles County requires $10,000 and Jefferson County requires $25,000.
