When you arrive, you'll need a government-issued photo ID and the specific "reason code" for your fingerprinting. The One-Year Validity Window

This is the detail that catches most applicants off guard: your BCI and FBI results are valid for exactly one year from the date they're processed. If the results expire, you have to go back to a Webcheck location, get fingerprinted again, and pay the fees a second time. There's no extension or grace period.

The OCILB reviews applications during bimonthly board meetings, so check the board's meeting schedule and submit everything 4 to 6 weeks before the next meeting. That gives the fingerprint results time to arrive at the Division of Industrial Compliance before the board reviews your file, while leaving most of the one-year window available for scheduling and passing the PSI exams.

What Happens If You Have a Criminal Record

Having a criminal record doesn't automatically disqualify you from getting an Ohio plumbing contractor license. The OCILB evaluates each case individually, considering factors like the nature of the offense, how long ago it occurred, and evidence of rehabilitation.

Ohio law requires licensing boards to consider whether an applicant's criminal history is "directly related" to the duties of the licensed occupation. A decades-old misdemeanor is treated differently than a recent felony involving fraud or theft.
